A Great Dentist

Is tooth pain a dental emergency?

If you have a severe toothache that’s interrupting your daily life, then it’s probably a dental emergency. Extreme tooth pain will feel unbearable and can even lead to pain in neighboring parts of your body, such as your neck and ears.

Tooth pain occurs in many different intensities, so not all tooth pain is a dental emergency. If your toothache is mild, intermittent, dull, or controllable with over-the-counter painkillers, you most likely don’t need to come in for an emergency visit. However, just because you don’t need to see us that same day doesn’t mean our Aurora emergency dentist doesn’t want to examine your smile.

At Uptown Comprehensive Dentistry and Prosthodontics, we still want to treat you for your tooth pain no matter how severe or mild it may be. Pain in a tooth is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong, even if it starts as only a small inconvenience or on-and-off sensitivity.

Tooth pain typically indicates cavities or significant internal infection, meaning that you need a dental filling or possibly root canal treatment. If you suffer from TMJ or bruxism, your pain may also be due to pressure on your jaw or wear and tear from constant teeth grinding.

If you experience tooth pain or another dental emergency in Aurora, CO, don’t wait to contact our dental office at (303) 627-5755 today.
