My dental team and I at Uptown Comprehensive Dentistry and Prosthodontics want you to enjoy your summer, including the delicious BBQs that are synonymous with the season. However, we recommend taking a few precautions to protect your smile.
Enjoy Your Time. Protect Your Smile
BBQ is always fun, but the sauces can be acidic and colorful, leading to tooth decay and even tooth stains.
Here are a few “general” tips:
- Brush and floss your teeth regularly.
- Don’t skip dental checkups and teeth cleanings.
- Talk to me if you notice oral health changes.
Here are a few “immediate” tips:
- Drink plenty of water while eating BBQ to help rinse debris from your teeth.
- Wait about thirty minutes before brushing and flossing after eating BBQ so you don't spread debris around your mouth.
- Consider BBQ side dishes like nuts, strawberries, and salads for their nutrients and tooth-cleaning power.
- Choose water as your beverage during the backyard festivities and ignore the fruit juice and soda. They are both acidic and not good for your teeth.
After Summer: Recovering from BBQs Season and Other Indulgences
If you notice new tooth stains at the close of the season, consider professional teeth whitening in Aurora, CO. Our prescription-grade systems can brighten your smile once again.
Like most dentists, I recommend two preventive dental visits annually. And after summer is a great time to schedule a dental exam and professional teeth cleaning. Your teeth cleaning removes stubborn tartar that can lead to tooth decay and even gum disease.
According to the Cleveland Clinic:
"Regular cleanings twice a year help prevent gum disease and cavities, keeping your smile healthy and fresh."
